Kempton jumps opener 2025 - Racecard with our picks for the 7 racecard.

After the opening 3 days of the season at the Welsh Racing Festival hosted at Chepstow we now have the Kempton jumps opener. The feature race of the day is the Copybet listed hurdle at 3:50, 4 runners head to post and the high class Burdett Road is currently 4/6 favourite for James Owen and Sam Twiston-Davies.

Rubaud for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden will look to spoil the party for Burdett Road and his connections. Rubaud went novice chasing last season for team Ditcheat where he fell on debut behind Sir Gino but back at Kempton he picked up his first hurdle win, beating Boombawn and Mark Of Gold but then finished down the field twice at Aintree and Punchestown. Reverting to hurdles for his first run of the season after wind surgery.

The exciting One Horse Town who is 2 out of 2 over hurdles for Harry Derham and owners The Jo Cool Syndicate runs in the 2:46 which is a juvenile hurdle over 2 miles. Rated 72 on the flat he began his jumps career in summer winning back to back hurdles at Hexham and Stratford. Looks an exciting prospect who is still only 3 years old.

Finally go of the mark last time out at Sedgefield over 2m 1f on good ground, the horse he beat Captain Cool has won since so gives his a form boost. Freddie Keighley gets on well with him and he looks sure to go close again

Another consistent type who's maiden hurdle record is 322 which all came in spring at Plumpton and Huntingdon. Last few runs have been on the flat where he has won at Bath in July. Ran last week at Kempton on the All Weather so comes in here fit for a team who is ticking along at 19% strike rate. Possibilities first time into a handicap.

6 year old mare who has ran 20 times winning 5 and is a very consistent sort who boasts form from this year of 411321. Comes here after winning at Sedgefield comfortably by 6 lengths under today's rider Gavin Sheehan. Has been put up 6 pounds by the handicapper but that doesn't look enough to stop her here today. Looks the safe pick in this contest

Been of the track for 141 days since having a very productive spring where he won at Huntingdon, Warwick and Stratford all on good ground. Cleary a horse on the up but may need todays race for fitness. Could lead in this small field under Caoilin Quinn who won on him last time out.

69 rated on the flat with 1 win at Bath under Finley Marsh. Hurdle debut here and brings in similar flat form to One horse Town, receives 10 pound of that horse here but is unproven over hurdles compared to One Horse Town so he is an intriguing newcomer here under James Bowen for Warren Greatrex.

His 2 wins where both at this venue where over 2m 4f his first was very impressive by 10 lengths under Ben Jones. had a go at the Topham Chase over the Grand National fences where he was outpaced from the start and got pulled up but was backed at 15/2. Had a quiet run at Sandown to end his season. Comes here after 178 days of the track which is similar to all in here but Fringill Dike. Youngest in the line-up and could yet improve.

8 year old who is lightly raced for Charlie Longsdon. Was prolific when he started under rules and won his first 4 races ( 1 bumper, 3 novice hurdles) Ran a good second in listed novice company in 2023 before being pulled up in the 2023 Supreme Novices Hurdle. Has won 6 races in his career including his debut chasing at Uttoxeter beating Rambo T who won the Silver Trophy at the Welsh Racing Festival last weekend.

Had a poor flat campaign but has been running in ultra competitive races but has sensational hurdle consistency with form of 1121322 including 2 graded wins. Was 2nd in last years Champion Hurdle due to State Man and Constitution Hill falling. Has been noise that he could once again target the Champion Hurdle and could be one to improve with age.

Won a conditional chase at the Welsh Racing Festival when we put him up last time. Runs here a week later in a stronger race but has a low weight of 10st 13lb and has race fitness on his side. Sam Twiston-Davies takes over after a conditionals race last time, stays further then this and most likely be ridden at the back to run through horses late on.

Started his chase career of very well with back to back handicap chase wins the first of 103 then won again at Ascot of 113 and the handicapper put him up to 120. Seems like his mark got the better of him after that with 3 poor runs, back down to 117 for this race and is only 4 pound ahead of his last winning mark will be one to catch now dropping back down in the ratings.

The win came at Fontwell under Ben Jones over 2 miles 5 furlongs on Good to soft but has ran solid races on todays good ground. Has won of a rating of 120 in his hay day and is now down to only 106. Harry Cobden is a positive booking.

6 year old who has only had 8 career runs but is a consistent type with form of 1333 since June. the win coming at Warwick in a 2 mile maiden hurdle where he beat Ice In The Veins. Last time out was 3rd but beat 26 lengths in a 15 runner handicap novice where he went of 40/1. Goes an extra furlong today in what looks a very weak race.
