After a couple weeks of big cards on a Saturday of 8 or 9 races we return to normal with a select 5 race card from Kempton and Newcastle. The Pendil Novices' Chase and the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase are the main races from Kempton and we also have the ultra competitive Virgin Bet Eider Chase from Newcastle.
After a week of mourning the loss of Michael O'Sullivan his funeral took place on Wednesday in Ireland and a minute silence took place over all racecourses in the UK and Ireland. Heart-breaking loss for all involved in racing and we send our condolences to all his friends and family at this hard time.

13:50 Ladbrokes Pendil Novices' Chase (Grade 2)

Chase Turf, Grade 2 Novice Class 1
Runners 6
Distance 2 miles 4 furlongs
Going Good
1st place £42,713

Our selection for the race
Win Imperial Saint
Horse we like very much and he made our list for 2025 of horses to follow after we knew he would go chasing this season. Won 3 Handicaps at Aintree since switched to chasing including on Good ground which is forecasted today. Ran really well on Soft ground at Cheltenham 4 weeks ago when he was 3rd, Huge chance on todays terms.
14:25 Ladbrokes Adonis Juvenile Hurdle

Hurdle Turf, Grade 2 Class 1
Runners 6
Distance 2 miles
Going Good
1st place £45,560

Our selection for the race
Win Mondo Man
Very good on the flat finishing 5th in the French Derby and 4th in the King Edward VIII at Royal Ascot. Bought out of France for 520,00gns in October. Very free on English jumps debut for Gary and Josh Moore but ran superbly only to be beaten by top class prospect Lulamba 5 weeks ago at Ascot. If settling better he should be far to good for this field.
15:00 Ladbrokes Dovecote Novices' Hurdle

Hurdle Turf, Grade 2 Class 1
Runners 8
Distance 2 miles
Going Good
1st place £42,713

Our selections for the race
Win Tripoli Flyer
Very good bumper horse and finished second in Grade bumper at Aintree on Grand National Day. Started his hurdle career well and he's never been out the top 2, most recently won his last 2 hurdle races albeit in poor races and he was long odds-on. Gained experienced now so should jump better but of ability alone he can feature strongly here.
Each-way Andashan
Won both his races at this venue, on bumper debut on soft ground and last time where he went from the front and dominated the field and wo by a wide-margin, that shows a major upturn in form and its hard to rule him out here.
15:35 Ladbrokes Trophy Handicap Chase

Chase Turf, Grade 3 Handicap Class 1
Runners 13
Distance 3 miles
Going Good
1st place £85,425

Our selections for the race
Win Lowry's Bar
First season chaser who has won 2 handicaps in a row in December (Soft) Very good 2nd at Windsor in Grade 2 novice behind the highly touted Jingko Blue last month where he would have went close without a mistake. Unraced on Good ground which is not ideal for him. Progressive 7 year old who has 12st top weight here but is clearly on the up and unexposed at 3 miles. Horse that made our horses to follow list so even though the ground might not suit we stick with him and hope his ability shines through.
Each-way Heltenham
Tough race for an each-way pick with many needing to prove something but Heltenham is unexposed over this trip. Finished a close 2nd here last February and went on to win 2 in a row at his favoured course Newbury. Mark has dropped to his last winning mark but has been well beat at Aintree and Newbury since, something to prove but untested over 3 miles hopefully sparks some improvement.
Newcastle
14:10 Virgin Bet Eider Handicap Chase

Chase Turf, Handicap Class 2
Runners 18
Distance 4 miles 1 furlong
Going Good to soft
1st place £41,624

Our selections for the race
Win Passing Well
Consistent and reliable horse who's finished 2nd in 3 of his 4 races this season. Cheekpieces added last two starts, ran markedly up in trip last time out at Lingfield in the Surrey National over 3m5f on Heavy ground and only just lost out to Sporting Ace in a driving finish. 4lb higher here and a much more competitive race but he's in the hunt here, Gavin Sheehan rides and we like how he rides these staying races and he usually judges the race well.
Each-way Gaboriot
Ten wins under rules for this yard. Won a Hunters Chase at Cheltenham over 4 miles last may on soft ground. Ran creditably at Aintree last time out in November which was a solid return to handicaps. His stamina over this far is assured going of the Hunter Chase win so a testing pace would be right up his street.
